From a link from your site:

"Shanghai is both charming and hollow. Too many kisses are wasted in
this city. I have a drawer full of stories about nights in Shanghai.
Which is the most splendid? None. I think I know where I got lost."

I spent a full night and half a day in Shanghai's airport, and then a
sleepless 12 hours on my flight back to Canada.
Goodbye China.
May the rest of the world not become so bleak, smelly, dirty, crowded or
bland as your cities I passed in 2006.
May you change for the better.

sorry about your bad travel experiences, Warm Worm.
you've the right to have your opinion and comment on any city as you
want on bbs
but it does NOT reflect the real world.

Shanghai is the my favorite city, charming and energetic. ofcoz with a
lot of social problems as those of the States and Canada.

I traveled a lot and slept in the airport a lot because of flight
delay or ground controls. but I'm not so frustrated as you're. I think
it's a good chance to explore a city for free! that's how I visited SF
and Baltimore.

but still, good luck for your journeys and still welcome back to
China.

My travel experiences weren't precisely bad.
My apartment, save for the wacky plumbing along a couple of walls, the
dubious hot-water-heater mount (over my head in the stand-up shower);
the sewer-like smelliness of the washroom and odd-looking flies one one
wall near the drain, was fairly decent and I especially enjoyed the
Russian TV channel.
My Russian colleagues were pretty cool too... I think I'll visit Russia
one day. :)
I also admittedly got a kick (for at least the first few days) out of
being about the only rollerblader, oval-faced and blue eyed, in Linyi,
and because if it, might now have a better idea of how famous people
feel. "Helloooo... Hellooooo"... "Neehaaaahww... Neehaaaahww" (waves)

I also appreciated the overpriced tea and tea-ceremony and the
spontaneous dinner-invitation afterward at a nice teahouse, along with
the generally fine hospitality of the people.
I had a hard time with the currency though, and had a feeling that many
thought I was rich. Relatively-speaking, perhaps, but not when I went
back home without any savings.

I uploaded a quick clip for you of my 6-hour trip back to Shanghai on
this cool "bed-bus"-- 3 rows full of bunk-beds:

Never took a bed-bus like that in North America, and certainly would
have appreciated it.

You might find that, with time, you prefer cities or towns more along a
"human scale".

By sleeping in airports?
See how well you sleep with a $1648 (Canadian) laptop and $1000 digital
camera in your luggage.

Give me a shout if you ever want to do Russia and want a companion. Da?
