Always refer to your local code as minimum standard.

You can incorporate methods 1 and 2 here. Nothing says you cannot.

<bg> again, I'd suggest talking to whoever is the building inspector.
He/she is the one who will eventually have to approve (or reject,
arrrrggggggg) the work.
