Always remember
Ignorance and Arrogance…… will take you a long way

That's true but I'm not running for office.
Seriously, I'd like to say thanks for the comments. Sounds like I may be
better off bidding my lumber package at the local lumber yards rather than a
box store, while home depot might be the place to get the
plumbing/electrical/ tile etc. Also - I'm hearing loud and clear that you
can have an insulation outfit insulate for less then you would pay for the
insulation. That's good to know since I absolutely hate that job. It may
also pay to go to a truss manufacturer directly.
I may also put the word out locally that I'd be willing to swap septic
design/installation for trade work.
Thanks again.

Have you considered 84 Lumber?
Not even sure they still do it anymore.
My Dad built a house from one of their kits about twenty years ago.
They brought materials in stages, as he needed them.
Good quality stuff, but who knows anymore.

Never heard of them.
I've built houses from scratch before but I've also thought about swapping
septic design and installation for specialty trades that I'll need, however,
I'll probably have to get the word out pretty far to find trades people who
might need what I have. I live on Whidbey Island so I guess it would be a
possibility within the greater Seattle/Everett/Mt Vernon/Anacortes area.
Lot's of building trades people out of work now. Bartering might be a way
to keep going. For instance, if a sheetrocker needs a septic system, that
could be a win/win.

Can you take your backhoe on the local ferries? We have only gone
to visit the Seattle and Vancouver city limits, but I did take the
local ferry for a cheap day cruise. When we went out to
Vancouver, Wa. we saw the big ferries. I just hadn't thought
about something as simple as moving a hoe or a septic tank for
that matter.
I sure would like huge bowl of Ivars's clam chowder.
