Saw on local news about a guy's home being flooded due to nearby lake
rising. The dam could not vent enough water via flood gates to prevent
that. The guy said he was going to rebuild, whether or not his home
insurance paid for it as "its my home" he said. Location, central TX, west
of Austin. The event of flooding such a level is not that uncommon in terms
of decades. Neither is New Orleans. Coastal Mississippi is what needs help
the most. The biggest difference between coastal MS and New Orleans is the
ground isn't shifting as much and sinking into the ocean by the former. Nor
is the former subject to the mouth of the MS river changing its course.
Barrier islands aren't deteriorating as quickly either along coastal MS.
The former is naturally and entirely above sea level. Given limited funds,
I'd go with the one least likely to lose due to its geography in face of a
severe storm.
If you're hungry and thirsty, don't live in the desert. Even if you were
born and raised there.
