Hi everyone,

Is it possible to cut a 10" hole in a 14" engineered wood rim board? I
need to run a 10" vent from the kitchen blower to the outside through
the rim board. (It can be through the rim board only, not through the
wall.)

The information from the APA (www.apawood.org) doesn't help much.

Many thanks for your help.

Sure. All it does, if it isn't over an opening, is to keep the
floor joists from falling over until the flooring can be applied.
Look a little farther down the wall and you will see a butt joint
in it unless it was framed by a purest who broke it on a joist.
(Shades of the over designed ridge board.<G>)

Doesn't it matter how think the board is? And if your unsure just use
real wood instead.
