Something you may want to look into. If all you are interested in is
preventing the nois and damage from the slamming of the door, you may try a
little device known as an "Airpot". I used these to slow 4'X8'x3/4" particle
going 300 fpm dowm a conveyor to zero over a six inch distance. They make
really small ones as well. It is basically an air cylinder working in
reverse. They come with a return spring and a regulator to allow you to
adjust the force required to compress them (aka the force to actually close
the door.) Other than that, they work just like shock absorbers.
