There isn't a top ridge, as noted. The eng'g drawings for the
CorAVent wall system make it appear there isn't sufficient room under
the current siding and I really don't want to get into modifying it at
this point as that's an unending project until a full section is
redone, too.

What I've read seemed to indicate there are also acceptable soffit
vents designed to close via bimetallic strip sensor for fire
protection for the areas that do require the extra wildfire protection
measures. Of course, clearing brush from an adequate area around and
not letting the trees grow back up directly around the house minimizes
if not entirely eliminating the problem... :) Some of the pictures I
saw from last year showed years of growth right up to the eaves of the
houses which is just asking for trouble.

Of course, we have native grass on all sides of the home place for
about 2 miles in all directions unbroken except for the section line
roads. They don't make an effective break when the wind blows as it
almost always does, either, so can't talk too much. We do keep a
barrier width around the equipment yard and outbuildings and house
mowed short so it at least has less fuel but a full-fledged fire w/
30+ mph wind would be exciting to say the least. Several small fires
last summer but all except the one the neighbors started by letting
trash get out of control were extinquished relatively quickly by a
sprinkle not too long after the lightning strike that set them off.
The one just west w/ the wind from the west was a little dicey for a
while as it didn't appear it was going to rain at all that night but
it did sprinkle just enough just in time to knock it down enough for
County truck to get out before it flared back up again. The trash
fire was fortunate the wind was from the SE taking it away from both
their house and any others within a couple miles and not terribly
strong. We also had hayed some of the grass so when it burned off
their property onto ours it ran into a swathed area that wasn't as
tall and so didn't race so quickly...

Any way, I digress... :)
