Solar powered roof vents. No need for wiring and they install from the roof
surface, when the sun shines the fans run.

30 years ago, not so tough, now "nearly", when needed probably
actually... :)
Think I'l look at the Cora ridge strip mentioned; not familiar w/ it.
If that doesn't seem to suit (not easy to modify flashing at the wall/
roof interface owing to the siding so if needs much more than what is
there may opt out) I'll probably just stick a couple of the
conventional passive vents in there...have to be better than the
nothing that's there now.

Hmmm...nice concept; you have a vendor/manufacturer?
Biggest problem I'd envision here would be hail destroying the solar
panel.
As a side note, did find the Cor A Ridge roof to wall product--looks
like precisely the product designed for the application. If had new
construction or easy to replace/modify the wall siding to install the
flashing properly I'd undoubtedly spring for it. But, since the
existing steel siding is in place and very difficult to modify in
place, might be difficult to get it installed as it looks as though it
needs an inch or so extra height than presently have so don't believe
can adjust the existing flashing to be over the vent.
Wrote to the manufacturer showing existing situation to see if had
simple answer.
Thanks to all; couple of ideas to chase...

Since Bob already supplied links to the products, here's a link to a video
"how-to" from This Old House:

Most of what I see on this old house has no regard for cost. Don't get me
wrong they do beautiful work but the bulk of what they do and the products
they use are out of reach for 98% of typical diy'rs.

Duane-
Not sure if its the right answer but "an" answer. I've got similar
situation 1930 skipped sheathed cedar shingles.
I'll elaborate later.
