Hello.
I need to apply alkyd (oil-based) paint to an exterior railing, but I do not
expect a stretch of dry weather in the foreseeable future. My question is,
if I can apply the paint and then tarp over the area after the paint becomes
dry to the touch, will rain have any detrimental affect if the rain does not
actually contact the paint?
Thanks
-Mark

The tarp will do a lot more harm than the rain. Can't get a
stretch of no rain for overnight?

As the other poster said

IF it is in contact with the railing.....if it's just a rain shield &
air can circulate, it will help but high humidty make it difficult for
paint to dry
I've had oil base paint "dull out" just by having the dew settle on it
over night
now I never paint oild base As the other poster said within a few hours
of sundown if I expect the temp to drop below the dew point
I just found a new (old) paint that is not water base or solvent
base.....its 100% solids, linseed oil based but it is expensive...lays
down good like old style oil base
If you're painting on new wood, I would suggest you start out right &
give this stuff a shot.....
No, I'm not a rep or a sales person :) just a satisfied user
