After looking the situation over and considering what you guys have said I
came up with another thought/question. The concern is perhaps that snow
load could possibly cause the walls to push out ward because of the lack of
collar ties(see previous posts). When the new addition was put on, the wall
that is continuous with the new section is all one wall. The other wall is
not continuous.... or the one that is in line with the older section. I am
thinking of drilling holes in the studs where the breeze way joins each
building and driving in large drift pins at some intervals. Also will
support the ridge board better. and collar tie the two rafters that do line
up. Sound like enough? If so how many drift pins? The studding is very
beefy already as they are 3x6 wall studs and where the breeze way joins they
are doubled up and in one corner there are 4 3x6 studs. I will probably
have to drift pin from both sides there.

not really sure what to say about if it is enough...probably. you
could through bolt your collar tie to the rafter to ensure a good
connection. also, not sure why you would use drift pins--why not lags?
or better yet, timber screws such as ledgerlocks.
