I'm looking at having my roof re-shingled. It's a 24 X 20 foundation
size, 6:12 pitch. How do you make an estimate on that for materials,
removal & installation?

thanks

You have 678 square feet, plus your overhang in feet x 108.

I don't even know what country you are in.

I'm in the US, and after having a home done a year ago, I can say the prices
varied wildly between contractors. I got about 8 estimates that ran from
$3000 to $8000 for a job about twice the size of yours, and a good bit more
complex. My best guess would certainly be to shop around, but you probably
won't want the cheapest bidder. Get some references. Roofing is certainly an
area where you find at least "some" fly by nights. I settled on one for
$4000 that did a terrific job for me.

I would also recommend considering the metal roof option mentioned by
another poster. Between possible tax and insurance discounts, and longevity,
it's a pretty attractive option. I would have done it myself, but the home I
had roofed was for sale.

I read on the AOL welcome screen that with the 'green earth' efforts, you
can get a tax relief by installing a metal roof. there are many new material
available since grandpa's tin roof. It would be worth checking into with a
tax break.
