Got a call from a customer, this morning. Says needs an estimate to fix an
AC, cause the compressor got damaged.
He gave me the adress, and the name and phone. I recognize the street in
Rochester, and it's not a great place to be.
I asked his name. Gave me, and it's different than the name of the woman who
lives there. So, i asked. No, he doesn't live there. He's the landscaper who
did the damage.
The call ID on my phone is different than the number he gave me for call
back. I did a quick net search on it, and it's the Developmental
Disabilities Office. Hmm.
I called the phone he gave me, for the customer. The recording says the
voice mail box is full. Called a second time, same message.
He wants an estimate for the insurance company. I'm wondering if I want to
drive across town, to look at this job? Sounds like a time waster.

Yep,
Weed-whacked the lineset and lost all the freezone. Insurance company may
cough up some cash about 8 months from now if your lucky and don't get shot
first.

So, it was old friends of yours, and you felt right at home.

Yes, go look at it. No question.

Are you prejudiced? Just because they can't read a gauge doesn't mean they
don't have reasoning and cognitive skills. In fact, they have better
learning/troubleshooting skills than you because you possess zero. Plus they
are teachable.

NO, NO, NO - that was the Stumpy troubleshooting line and they were all out of
answers for you.

Stumpy, not only go look at it during the day but also at night say 2 AM that
way the neighbors will be around because you can check the shadows for
additional damage not visible during the day. Also talk to the neighbors
regarding your religion - maybe make some converts...
Quote them for a couple gallons of gaz and some smart valves and a new digital
thermostat complete with the digital wiring. Then when they accept your
estiguess go in with a Harbor Freight slide hammer to the "fins" and compressor
to bump out the problem spots. It's all good.

That general idea. It wasn't Miss Marple in the parlor with a candlestick,
it was the landscaper on the side of the house with a roto tiller. But,
there is a murder mystery in progress in any case.
