From what I have read, you should just ignore posts like this. They
come from people with a psychological problem that leads to their
posting insults all over the internet. One of the things they crave
is a response. They crave a response of any kind, even if it is a
return insult or attack. The best thing to do is quickly skip over
their posts and never respond to them in any way.

Actually, if you had done some research on stormin, you would have seen that
he doesn't have a clue, and a lot of the advice he has given is just flat
dangerous. Most of the regulars here have him in their killfiles, but a
couple don't just to ride herd on stormin and keep him from giving advice
that could get some home owner killed. It has nothing to do with a psyc
problem other than his.

OTOH constantly getting folks that don't have a clue that come in here and
demand answers and expect us to tell them how to fix their POS broken air
conditioner for free, need to go to alt.home.repair...thats what they are
for. This news group is for professional in the trade, and yes, its always
been that way for the 12 or so years that I have been in here. If you don't
like it, you don't have to come in here.

In response to the last two posts, I don't know the people here or the
history of the group so I can't comment. I try to get along with
everyone. My comments about psychological problems on line may have
been wrong in this situation. Generally when I see people insulting
others, name calling and so on I assume that it is one of these Trolls
who are just trying to get a response, but in this case I was probably
mistaken. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I have gotten useful information here and I thank everyone who
responded. I don't know anything about HVAC and humidity control and
am trying to learn. I understand that if this is a conference where
mostly professional HVAC people are talking then my questions might
seem too simple to deal with. If anyone doesn't want to communicate
with an inexperienced guy like me then I am sure you will just ignore
my posts and that is fine. I will probably keep asking questions
because there are some people here who seem happy to answer them.

Thanks again for all your help.

I have been reading about the humidex system at this site:
http://www.humidexhome.com/index.cfm

What they are saying seems logical. They say moisture sinks, and
that by sucking air from a vent in the floor, down into the crawl
space and thus also forcing the air in the crawl space out of the
house, you reduce moisture in the house without running a
dehumidifier.

It seems to me you could do the same thing with a fan blowing air out
of the crawl space and a vent in the house floor, without spending
$1200 on their unit.

This raises one new question though. If moist air sinks, why are
bathroom fans in the ceiling?
