Assuming that the dial on the fan/ limit switch is an accurate
measurement of temperature, what's the most efficient range of temps
that the dial should rest at when the blower is running and the burners
are on?

C'mon.........you dont really expect to save money on your utility
bill by adjusting the fan and limit control on your old ancient belt
driven clunker, do you?

It should rest where ever it needs to to maintain the manufacturer's
specified temperature rise.

Air flow and output determines temperature rise, not a fan/limit.
If the fan settings did, you wouldn't need the limit, would you?
