I have a question on an electronic air cleaner.
We are new home owners in Canada. Hot summers cold winters no spring or fall so basically our blower is on 10 months a year either heat or cooling. Gas furnace about 12 years old, central air about 20 years old. Electronic air cleaner about 40 years old.
Model is Electro Air SS10 cleaner. It has two pullable rad type cartages that appear to be powered when the unit is on.
The electronic cleaner is located at the return duct near the furnace blower motor. There is no paper or membrane filter for this but a piece of mesh metal. I can't find a size of filter to fit this although I managed to make a 16 x 24 x 1 inch think paper cardboard edge filter "fit" just before those cartages. We are a bit concerned with dust because 2 big dogs will live with us shortly.
How do I know if these electronic cleaners filter dust? How do they work? I assume they zap dust particles but is that effective? I see no collected dust on these cartages. Right now I assume they will not work so tried to cram a filter in a 1 inch slot for some filtration.
Anyone have any advice on these types of cleaner system?
Thank yee!!!!
