Outside heat pump unit is a Lennox HP26. No colling the other day.

All observations at outside unit.
Suction side pressure is 150 psi all the time, high side is always 0
psi. Even after unit has been off for a day, pressure does not
equalize. Even when unit is on, compressor getting hot, pressures do
not change. Sounds like compressor makes a hum sound every 5 minutes,
like its trying to start, and the current to the compressor rises for
that short time.

Also I don't really see any current going into the compressor with a
clamp on ammeter except for that 2 second time period, every 5 minutes
or so, even though the compressor is getting hot (strange).

Tried going to heat cycle to switch reversing valve, pressures stay
the same, and nothing else changes.
Oil is all over bottom of unit and inside fittings near top of all
tubing, valves, etc inside unit. Oil is not just on bottom of unit.

1. Should not the pressures equalize after unit is off for a while ?
Why does the low always stay at 150 ?
2. Seems like oil and charge came out of high side, being its always
0 ?
3. Does this seem like an outside compressor/valve problem and not
inside air handler/expansion valve problem ?
4. Could I force a voltage on the reversing valve with a power supply
and see if it switches, and should the pressure release to a more
normal value on the low side ?

TIA

What you should do is call a competent repairman.

Other than that - post this tripe in alt.home.repair, not
here.

Unfortunately I haven't found one. They all want the easy way out and
want to replace the whole system to make the $$$. Thats the way things
wirk today it seems like. Off to home repair I go for the tough
question.

        Thank you.

BTW, you're problem is you have a freon leak. And you're
misusing the terms high side and low side

reason they want to replace it is , its toast, sounds like the compressor is
locked up ,
no sense in repairing it,

now go to alt.home.repair
