I have a gas furnace, comfortmaker RPJ2 and suspect that it needs a
new controller general 90 50A50-110 replacement number is 50A55-843
symptom:
The igniter works and burns bright, but intermittently the burners
will not ignite and the the blower will just keep blowing as the house
gets colder.
Recycling the power to the unit seems to fix this for a while.
Is there a good test I should do?

Also,
Is there any local place in northern Virginia preferably Sterling/
Herndon/Leesburg that I can get one of these? or HVAC parts in
general?, all I can come up with is mail order.

Thanks,
crzzy1

Amp the ignitor. Looking at it tells you nothing.

Amping this one wont tell him anything either. This controller does
not look at the ignitor amp draw.

OK - but amp it anyway. Even if proofing is accomplished
differently ( as it often, in fact usually, is ), amping it will tell
you if it's getting up to proper ignition levels. More to the OP's
question, the 'brightness' of the ignitor is of course meaningless.

This controller uses a flame rod for flame proving. Amping it only
helps if you know what a new one amps out at. The ignition systems
that use a HSI for rectification usually need to see a min amount of
amps before it will open the gv. Lochinvar boilers for instance need
to see at least 3. something amps. I could say exactly but its raining
and I don't feel like going out to my truck to look at the service
manual. Some ignition systems do use the HSI amp draw others don't.
I've seen Trane Voyagers HSI glow and not light consistently so it is
possible the HSI is weak or maybe the flame sensor is dirty.
