Blower fan in my old Lennox started into squeeling...

Geeze...no oil ports visable, suspect must have sealed ball bearings....so I
take the OEM numbers off the nameplate and tentatively set about finding a
replacement....no luck on the internet as to crossing over to fasco or us
motors--no biggee it was late at night. anyways...

So next day pull the blower, and find ( cant remember the maker ) on
it....but it had been mounted with the oil ports at the six o'clock position
( kinda hard to get oil to flow uphiill, even if you could find the fucking
ports using the flashlight and mirror trick )...

Now just remember folks...always mount any new blower motor with the oil
ports facing downwards, and completely outa sight from ther suspecting
pubic.

After all, you wouldnt want any them to actually attempt at oiling one
themselves....

Tell me where the last replacement "resi" motor you picked up had oil
ports?
Now, lets just say for the hell of it you actually did manage to get
one. Take the oil port caps out and try and put oil in it. Betcha cant
put more than one or two drops in it.

That's all you're supposed to put in.
Any more than a few drops and you're putting in too much.
The main problem with oiling DD motors is that you only have access to the
one oil port when it's in the blower housing.
I've seen a few older motors that have a tube connected to both oil ports
so both bearings can be lubed at the one port, but I tried to buy them at
my local motor supply house and they can't find them anywhere.

Estimate had forced in perhaps 2 cc of oil...and beings as the bearings were
completely dry...

Ya...it's hard to tell just how much is enough and how much is too
much...general rule of thumb is 5 or 6 drops per bearing, any more and
the oil can end up in undesirable places inside the motor.
Also, the fact that they were dry and making a noise suggests to me that
they are damaged and may not last very long.
Be prepared to change that motor.
Older Lennox furnaces use a small diameter motor, 5 inch I think, as
opposed to a 5.5 inch.
If you have a problem finding a replacement, let me know and I'll look
up the after market one.
