Well, I was at the shop when the wife called telling me it had suddenly
started making one hell of a racket, so I told her to shut it
off....guessing it was probably without an oil film for only a few minutes
time.

So far, so good..it's been running constantly for about 48 hours now...

Yup...

Already even have another heat pump attached to the same ducting run so
won't be left in the cold should one system fail

Sounds about right, it's 1/2 hp 3 speed with 1/2in shaft....

Appreciated--pretty sure it wasn't the oem motor in there so already wrote
the data off the motor plate in felt pen onto the blower housing.

There are other issues with that Lennox though...and so if any serious $$$
needs spent then probly I'll just end up replacing it with factory matchup
for the much newer Trane condensor outside.

Sam,

If the thing has a oil port, it's most likely a sleeve bearing. As Bob
said, once those puppies start to make noise they're done. Keeping
looking for a new motor.

Bob also said 5-6 drops is sufficient for most small motors. Any more
any you'll be getting blow-back of lubricant all over everything.

On Air/over motors... that is NOT a good thing. If the bearing doesn't
give out, and you put that much oil in it... it'll attack the winding
insulation for sure.

Most of these motors are a standard NEMA frame size. I think Baldor
still has NEMA charts available on-line. Take your measurements (mount
spacing, shaft diameter, physical size) and you'll find a NEMA frame.
Then you can shop around nearly anywhere...
