Hi All,
I have an Ice machine (Manitowoc) that is outside.
We are having a bit of cold weather and the fan on the machine
short cycles. The fan is the only symptom I hear, the compressor
continues running and it will make ice. I don't like to let it run like
this. Will this cause any harm to the fan or pressure switch or any
other parts of the machine.
Mike

PS. I know the machine has a temperature range that it will run properly.
I know the machine is not made to run outside.
I can't change the weather and I can't move the machine.

Then build a large box around it, and heat it.

The weather has warmed and I didn't run out of ice, but if we had
one more day of cold I might have.
What area in the machine needs to be warmed?
One day I setup three large mirrors to reflect sunlight onto the backside
of the machine and it did reduce the cycling. I wasn't available to keep
moving the mirrors though.
Mike

PS. I can't stop rotation of the earth until I have a enough ice. ;-)

I'll let you of the hook - that fan cycling is normal, there's
a control in the machine specifically to make it do that in colder
conditions, so leave it alone.

Barack the Magic Negro has that on his 'To do' list for
you :-)

Oh, I can hardly wait until nobody has to pay their mortgages, healthcare
is "free" and gas is cheap!

Regarding the cycling, (actually short cycling) it maybe normal at 35* or
40* F but I don't know if it's
harmful to the long term good of the machine. The cycling is about 7 seconds
on and 3 seconds off.
Mike

PS. I wasn't going to fix the machine, I just wanted to add heat where it
would stop the short cycles.
