Hi All I have been looking at Wrightsoft and I down loaded the demo, Wrightsoft website says you can import cad drawings but I haven't figured out how. the only import function I see is under the "proposal" menu. Am I missing something or is it because I am looking at the demo? Thanks BRC
Another clueless post from you. Christ dude get a trade magazine subscription or try attending a trade education conference. Or quit posting about things you don't know about.
The one thing I HATE about wrightsoft is their drawing! You want to do a small heat loss/gain, you have to draw it out or have lots of trouble with entering all the data.
If you like playing with floor plans more than getting a heat loss/gain, then buy it. Just got an update today in the mail. Personally, I would never have bought it except for the Geothermal usage, and the loop portion I personally don't care for. Heck, there isn't much about Wrightsoft I really like....
Wrightsoft sucks... But for the most part, free demos all suck...
If you want to import a AutoCAD drawing (.dwg) make sure you've got the scales right, cuz the program won't help. Neither will the customer service folks. All problems will eventually be proven to be A Loose Nut Between the Chair & the Keyboard... But they'll let you know it in an awfully pleasant Eastern seaboard way. If you want to manipulate a CAD drawing, you'll need a CAD program. (.dwg/.dxf/ etc...) If you want a load program then shop around, enter the data as needed & be done w/it. My favorite is Elite (elitesoft.com) straight forward & simple after a little practice. Also lets you load it on multiple computer w/out issues.
Wrightsoft gives you 3 keys to load & that's it. I had a computer crash & replaced it, they told me they wouldn't replace the lost key & I'd have to buy another copy.
The loop & radiant sections are fairly worthless as well. Geothermally I don't trust their output, & if I'm doing radiant, I'll draw my own, as they're output will run lines through walls, or cover a 20' hallway widthwise instead of lengthwise... lots of short 3'-u turn-3'-u turn-3', etc... & don't try to relocate a loop... I've heard a program called "loopcad" or ??? is supposed to be very user friendly, from those that do allot of it.
: Wrightsoft is by far the best solution on the market. I can not comment on your experiences but mine have been all positive. I am not a strong computer user but I found it easy to use. I run a small HVAC company in RI and this product helps my company greatly. I do loads, duct and radiant design, proposals and operating costs with no problem. I did have a learning curve but every software has that no matter what anyone says. I found Wrightsoft shorter than Elite's. Yes I tried Elite's first and switched to Wrightsoft.
Importing a CAD drawing was easy as long as the CAD drawing was done right to begin with but you can't blame the software for user error! I never found any of the issues that you stated so I wonder if they are true. I even asked 10 other users I know from ACCA and Distributor meetings and they did not agree either. As far as tech support I had no issue as they helped me with my questions but maybe you called more than I did.
I actually found Elite's software harder to use and they have no technical support at all. If you want any you have to pay for it. Sure they give you unlimited copies but how many other software companies do that? None that I found. To each there own I guess.
Good Luck

Wow, Welcome to the 21st century... You drug that post out from wayyyyyyyyyyyy back, Kudos to your Usegroup... Mine is aftermarket as Comcast cut us off a while ago.
Wrightsoft still sucks! Always has & always will. (Sorry Bill, but your phone techs cost you a customer years ago) If you can't find tech support from Elite, your calling the wrong 800 #
ps Always blame the ACAD drawing for your software's lack of ability... It's kinda like lining up your Chess pieces on a Candyland board... WHY??? If Autodesk had the guts they'd buy up anyone of a thousand load software programs & give the loads as the building is designed. This, of course, will never happen as user error would put liability on the software & not the user.
I prefer to scale & enter dims by hand. If your counting on any software to design your duct, you deserve to stay a small contractor in RI, Even Stormy could eat your lunch... & he might even take your job app...
Calc the loads & draw the duct (either by hand or CAD) but never let a piece of (sh**) load software design your system. A ductulator is a very powerful tool... Learn it, know it, live it, (the tin will follow...)
I like Elite. I've used both WrightSoft and Elite, and it seems Elite is faster, easier to input the necessary info or draw. The software seems more logical to me than Wright Soft.
WrightSoft has too many windows that you have to set. It's difficult to set up defaults. Elite is much easier.
