The heating or A/C on the 2nd floor is woefully inadequate; other
houses of this type in this neighborhood have 2 A/C units
outside...it's been the worst aspect of this house since we bought
it...it may be that the air handler is underpowered for the size of
the house(3200 s.f.) These are just my observations, I'm a Subaru
mechanic in "real" life.....!

Your neighbors likely also also have 2 air handlers inside then...one for
upstairs..another separate one for down.

An adequately sized system will run constantly at design temps, shouldn't be
hard on the system though--for instance, here during this time of the year I
try and keep at least one of our heat pumps running all of the time....

an adequately insulated structure would neither gain or lose btu's and
would require nothing more than a ERV for adequate heating. cooling
and ventilation needs.
