The last time copper was high I remember seeing a photo in the NY Daily News
of a thief hanging (dead, with one leg missing) from the lines of either the
LIRR or Metro North railroad who was caught in the middle cutting wire when
the line was re-powered. BTW the leg was on the ground under him.

The "copper cop" and other pressure switch type security setups are
better than nothing, and hopefully can set off an alarm which will cause
the assholes to be caught in the act. However, if the condenser coil is
butchered beyond repair by the time the pressure is down enough to set
it off, not much is gained. On most 5 ton and under units, a condenser
coil costs more than a whole new unit. Unfortunately, there is no easy
solution-- the crack heads are going to get copper no matter what. All
anyone can do is make it more difficult so they will get someone else's,
not yours. Larry

That's when they point you toward home and run you outta town on the
railroad.
