So after a week now of my customer having no resolve from the HMS home
warranty company its come to this:
First Ive had to call them 3 times now. They want more info, what I
charge, what I'll cover, what they wont cover, what they think is
best, the girl that handled the claim first was new, the process is in
"finalization, the coil costs too much, etc. etc. They have decided
not to replace the evap coil in the Trane TWE air handler due to cost.
(Take an average A-coil and double the cost). "Nothing stops a
Trane..........(except price). :-)
Instead, THEY WILL SUPPLY a new Payne air handler with the electric
heat. They will not pay for recovery or anything else. Strictly my
labor will be paid. I need to give them my "labor only" price to
install the unit and let them know what will and wont be
covered..............hehehe.
Seems simple enough. I'll give them my regular price I normally charge
to install a basic cheap air handler and subtract out My Cost of the
unit only.
Its like working for some cheap bastard with no money.
"HMS......gotta luv em". NOT!

Make sure to mention that you cover NOTHING under warranty on
THEIR AHU.

You'll get the AHU, and pull the plug from the suction line, and find it's
not under pressure! Whoops? :( Hmm, I wonder if it leaks?

Paul,
I got that covered. That was going to be the first part of my
conversation with them tomorrow.
I give them a workmanship guarantee only. Nothing else! Im not
covering a unit I didnt purchase.

Noon,
I dont think Id send them my flat-rate book. Screw em. They just want
to use it for comparison.

Stormy,
Why dont YOU "RUN". Run your ass the hell outta here......quickly!

pRECISION,
Yup, you got me. I didnt even notice. I guess me and my
SAGE should just be used for cooking.

By the way. I'm not hooked up with any home warranty company. Dont
think I ever will. We all know they dont pay.
The last one I did was another of my customers that bought a home with
their warranty. They called the co. and told them they didnt want the
hack that was coming out and wanted my company to do the repairs.
They wanted to dicker (HMS) and I told them, "here is my price and I
dont negotiate". They paid it minus the deductible which the homeowner
paid.
On this current coil repair, all I want is the repair dollars they
will give. I dont care what they cut out. The customer is putting it
toward a air handler replacement. The customer will pay whatever the
diff is.

"Thats my story and Im sticking to it" :-)

And make clear that 'visits to diagnose problems' are NOT
covered, and will be billed at your regular rates. Otherwise you
could get trapped into a free service call to determine that the
problem is their non-warrantied ( by you ) unit. If the problem you
find is in your workmanship, the visit is free. Otherwise, it's at
your usual rates, regardless of whether you fix the unit or not (
which would be extra, of course ).
