Are AS products just rebadged Trane? Compressors the same?

Yes Amrican Standad is the same as Trane.The differance being that
Amstd is distributed by independent wholesalers. Trane is owned by
American Standard but with the name recognition it would have been
hard to change the whole compay over to one brand name. At least there
is only two names in the line up unlike some other companies.

In the mid '80's American Standard, a plumbing fixtures company,
purchased Trane, a manufacturer of commercial hvac products.

In Feb of 2007 American Standard announces it is selling two of its 3
divisions including the American Standard name. American Standard is
expected to rebrand itself as The Trane Company.
