Look fool, if you want to "just run the electrics" then switch the
thermostat over to emergency heat. Oh and BTW, get out your credit card,
you'll need it.

Actually, suggest simply pull the disco or shutoff the breaker ( or jerk
the heat pump condensor altogether and replace with straight AC) .

While he's at it might as well torch a couple ten spot every week and
fucking toss them out the car window.

Thats obvious. I am talking about the times when I'm away and the outdoor
temp is hovering over the point where the HP no longer can bring the indoor
temp up. If the low for the day is 0 degrees(and this is an air heat pump
mind you and not one of the newer multistage units) and the high is around
lower 20s...then of course I don't want the strips running when its in the
20's.

But I've found the stat I'm looking for that will do this now.

You got 3 choices... you can call the installer to come out and correct any
problems, or you can call a competent, licensed HVAC tech to come out and
correct any problems, or you can live with it.

FWIW, the heat pump and strip heat are doing what they were designed to do,
and thats to maintain a constant, even temperature in your home. If you
don't like it, have it ripped out and go back with propane or oil heat and
let the oil companies bend you over.

Or I can get a proper thermostat and outdoor sensor and do it myself. Its
not that hard, just didn't know which thermostat to use or what is
available.

dont HVAC techs just hate it when normal people can do what they can do?
Must really suck.
