It has nothing to do with a "secret handshake" or any other such bullshit.
Nobody can tell you what setting to put it on without knowing what the
back-up heat is. Is it gas?? is it electric?? Does it even *HAVE* any
back-up heat?? You have only given us HALF of the needed information to give
you what you want. Get it???

Guess what ? 'Works for many other sytems' does not equal 'is
the right stat for YOUR system'. That is one of the reasons there are
many different stats.

Um yeah. If that was important to know, you could have asked, "Well,
is it gas or electric?" I'm not the "highly-trained HVAC
professional" here.

Anyways, thanks to a kind and cordial email from a group member--who
asked about the wires to the thermostat--I was able to google the
wires that I had and saw that:

You have a multi-stage heat pump if:
3. Your old thermostat has wires going to the letters W2, X, or E.

See, wasn't that simple? I didn't know the wires would tell me. So
any one of you jacknuts could have suggested looking at the wires.

I'm not coming back, so you can hold your vitriol.

I guess we were supposed to be able to *SEE* the wires through the computer
monitor?? I guess the next questions are either going to be either "I put a
new thermostat on and nothing works anymore, how do I turn it back on again.
Is there a reset??" OR, "I just put a new thermostat on my heat pump, now
its blowing hot air, does it need some more FREON??"
