Greetings everyone from an alt.hvac newbie.
A restaurant owner I know has a Hoshizaki ice machine that stopped
working. Now I'm not an HVAC guy but she asked me to look at it so I
did. The refrigeration works. The water flow is okay; no clogging.
Even the jets are clear. But the problem is the pump never turns on,
therefore the water never squirts up and no ice gets made...
I checked the little fuse on the circuit board, it's okay.
I didn't think to look at the model number when I was in the
restaurant today but I went to the Hoshizaki website just now and hers
looks just like the photo of the AM150BAF, and the cutsheet shows the
same sheetmetal shapes on the back of the appliance and so forth.
She has had this ice maker long enough that it's out of warranty. I'd
really like to help her fix it. I'm an experienced electronics
hobbyist and amateur mechanic, professional carpenter and all-around
construction guy, so I have some chops when it comes to fixing stuff.
But still, I have little experience working on refrigeration
equipment.
If some of you guys and gals that have experience with these ice
makers could give me some tips, I'd be most thankful.

        We do.

They are complex sophistcated machines that run within close
tolerances. They require specialized training and tools and
knowledge.

IOW - she needs a pro, this is not a hobbyist item to work on.

The 60 credits I earned studying mechanical engineering with a
cumulative 3.5 gpa before I finally had to drop out and go back to
work may not amount to anything... I mean, swapping out that pump
would strain my abilities.
Not.
And the aftermarket motorcycle ignition I designed may or may not
indicate I have any knowlege of electronics. My electronics products
don't sell in mass quantities; it's a niche market. So I call myself
a hobbyist.
But YOU, sir, may call me an engineer.

No, but correctly diagnosing it would.

You wanna change parts, I'm sure you can do it very well.
After all, you're college-trained.

Luckily for the owner, there are a limited # of parts in
there. Unluckily for her, they are expensive. And merely putting
them in doesn't achieve correct calibration and operation. I guess
they must have taught THAT one in the credit hours you missed out on.

Or, I may call you a pissy little bitch who doesn't know how
to fix an ice machine, nor how to take good serious advice , given
civilly, in a civil manner.

Wow, the first reply from Paul made me ask;

"WHAT JUST HAPPENED!!!??????"

Then this guy mouthed off and Paul replied.

Now I'm asking;

"Is this the 8th wonder of the world? This can't be Paul, its got to be a
troll!"

Mr. Engineer, its your lucky day! LOL
