Thank you guys -- esp Bubba and Steve Scott. One more question: how
much should such a modification/system cost? My furnace tech says
$1600 for the whole thing installed. Is this reasonable -- or is he
working off his boat payments?
I'm in NW Connecticut.

        Ummm..... Are we talking about a standard 'reverse reset'
controller here ??? The kind I used to carry a couple on my truck
along with other standard boiler controls, pumps, etc, very common in
commercial units ? Johnson / Penn if I recall ? Little grey box, two
probes ( one for boiler temp, the other longer one to run outside and
sense outside temperature, so as it gets colder outside, the boiler
set point is raised ? That's all it does ?

I don't find it right now online, but it's sure cheaper than the below

Please remember Paul hasn't worked in the field since Moses parted the

$1,600..................for a boiler.........hehehe
Ive installed 75 gal gas water heaters that cost that much.
