Sometimes when i pressed the trigger on the air impact wrench it would just
let air out and do nothing else and when it did work it would undo anything
above 40ft lbs i took it apart to see if i could see what was wrong but now
it doesnt work at all just lets the air out when i press the trigger all the
time

Two key points: what type/size of impact wrench is it and what is your
inlet pressure. Most cheap and even good quality impact wrenches are
designed to run at pressures above 75psi (some even at 90+ psi
particularly for larger 1/2" models). If your inlet pressure is low
you will get no power and excessively low pressure will cause the
problem you mentioned, no rotation just the air flow. If low inlet
pressure is ok then it very well could be the tool. Do you lubricate
it frequently or at all with a air tool lubricant.

Did you lube it like the directions say when you last put it away?
Is the line pressure high enough?

Also, your air source may have a restriciton in your hose or feed
line.

Even though you have a 100psi showing on your guage, a restriction
can bleed down the effective pressure to 30psi as measured at the
drill turbine.

Thanks for the replys

I've managed to get it working again but just back to it was before i took
it apart so it still wont undo anything above 40ft lbs still.

Its all oiled, the compressor is only a small one its a cosmo 1.25HP 6
litre, piston displacement 7.5 CFM and max air pressure 118psi and the
impact wrench is a 1/2" drive, air consumption 4 CFM, pressure required
90psi, air inlet 1/4"npt.

The air line is the one from this kit
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5-PCS-AIR-TOOLS-KIT_W0QQitemZ7992017150QQcategoryZ30906QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
would it make any difference if say i buy this air line
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4396462538&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1#ebayphotohosting
or cant the compressor cope with an impact wrench, the pressure is right up
on full

Cheers
