Hello All,
Most rooms in my house have electric basebords and a thermostat.
Lately one or two of the baseboard heaters have been turning on, while
the thermostat is set to off.
Could this mean its time to install a new thermostat? If so, how
easy of a job is it?

Is your thermostat the kind with a dial? If so, you can remove the covering
around the thermostat. There should/may be a plate that moves when the dial
is turned. Perhaps you can see something inside when the dial is turned to
off?

It's usually pretty straight forward. If the thermostat is only controlling
one or two small units, it would be a "line voltage" thermostat, which means
it works on 120 or 240 volts. It could either be single pole or double pole,
which means it will have two wires or four wires. Your description would
indicate a bad thermostat, so I'd recommend killing the power to that
circuit, confirming that you have indeed killed the power, then remove the
stat and see if it's single or double pole, then buy the appropriate stat to
replace it with. Once you get to that point, if you have more questions,

How are you sure, the thermostat is NOT sending an ON signal? Is this
a mecanical termostat?
