I've noticed for a while that our oven doesn't seem to be cooking food
properly. Items usually take much longer to cook than anticipated.

I recently purchased an oven thermometer and I'm currently checking out how
the oven heats... It heats POORLY! :(

I have the oven set for 500 degrees F. It's been on for about an hour now.
The thermometer is show a temperature of almost 400 degrees F. Definately
not good.

Reading the owners manual I see that during baking both the bottom and top
elements are used to heat the oven. I know that the top element works as it
gets red when broiling. The bottom element is hidden. What are the chances
that the bottom element just isn't working and all the heat is coming from
the top element?

I have to open the stove up anyhow, because of a problem with one of the
cooktop elements so I'm hoping that this is going to be an easy fix. Any
pointers for me?

Stove is a seven(?) year old Whirlpool ceran top with digital controls.
Model #GJP84900 (Canadian)
Type: 30p

Good chance the element is not working. Uncover it and take a look.

might be a thermostat that needs calibrated, if its a mechanical
thermostat theres a small screw in center of knob, may have to remove
knob to adjust

Knob? Ain't no knob here... Just push buttons.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be the bottom element... Just need to get the
time to take it apart and find out for sure.

Thx!

Couldn't sleep last night so I pulled the side off the oven and pulled out
the baking element. There's a two inch gap in the element! Ouch! Definately
time for a new one.
