Don't know if any contractors in the New York metro area still read
Usenet, but I'm looking for a fiber cement siding installer to do work
in Brooklyn, NY. I've had problems finding anyone who has experience
with this material.
The job is putting siding on the front and back of a 3 story attached
house. The previous siding has already been removed. The property is 21
ft. wide, with the front being approximately 30 ft, and the back being
approximately 35 ft. high. There are 16 openings (windows and doors).
Does anyone have a rough idea as to how much a job like this should
cost?
The one person who did actually come out and give an estimate was from
Long Island, and his quote was more than twice as high as the vinyl
quote I got from Home Depot. As as matter of fact, it was higher than
the stucco quote I got. (Real stucco, not EIFS).
I thought fiber cement was supposed to be somewhere in between in terms
of pricing. I'm looking for a fully insured installer who can give me a
couple of references.
Home Depot guy said they didn't do fiber cement siding in my
neighborhood and gave me some lame excuse about how it wasn't "stable"
enough for the climate. I see it used all over the northeast, so I'm
guessing he was just giving excuses to try to move me to vinyl, which I
hate the look of. As a matter of fact, I had asked them to send someone
to give a fiber cement siding quote, and it wasn't until he showed up
did he say they only did vinyl.
