shows a truck out of control. Look at the evidence. There is a car
stalled and astride on the left lane. Look at the guard rails lining
the road. The rails on both sides were distorted in many places.
This means that many previous hits from that corner had happened
already. That's one very vicious road curve. Its a miracle no one
was killed. But then the part where the truck would have totaled the
stalled car with a broadside was cut off just before it happened.
That probably was what happened.
This brings up a point about driving on icy roads. Some years ago
there was a multi-car pileup on the icy freeway near my city. Their
own car, having piled into the mess, a couple of civic minded teens
did a good deed by going further up the road to flag down cars before
they came upon the accident scene and added to it. They managed to
stop quite a few cars before one came on a bit faster than was good
for him. That car braked hard but had no grip on the icy road. It
ploughed right into these two boys. Double fatality. The lesson here
is if you are involved in an accident on an icy (or foggy) road,
especially on the freeway where cars tend to go at freeway speeds
regardless of the road conditions, get out of the car immediately and
walk down and away from the scene as far as possible. Sooner or later
the next car will plow into yours. If you remain inside your car you
can get maimed or killed.
