There was a tragic case in Ohio where a homeowner made the same mistake of
disconnecting a raised door with a broken spring. The parent could only
watch as the child was suffocated by the weight of the door, which was too
heavy to lift.
The spring manufacturer was eventually held liable, even though the part
had performed its normal service before failing. Kind of like holding the
tire manufacturer liable for a bald-tire blowout.

There are better ways to manage such risks than the guild mentality.
