If you were  Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options

Maybe OT ?

Most of the spam in this NG seems to originate in @gmail accounts. (That's
what I see when I look at the "Properties" of a message)

I use OE6. Can someone tell me how to block newsgroup messages from all
gmail accounts?

Are you sure you want to do that? Although a lot of crap comes through
google, there are some normal people who use google. Dumb, but normal.

Click Tools, Rules, News, New to create filtering rules in OE6.

In newsgroups, you don't use an email address you give a damn about, do you?
Your mere presence here will generate spam.

A mail list it isn't published as such. I belong to a number of
them. There is no spam coming from them.

The real question is who would host them, and who would administrate
them. I believe hosting can be done for free. I have no time to
admin them.
