No, that's only what the header of the posting says. The newsgroup posting
may originate almost anywhere.

The one place it did NOT originate from is a gmail address.

Email is a completely different critter than newsgroup postings or a web
interface to a newsgroup.

Thanks, guys

I'll just use my brain-based filtering system.

Now why in the world would you want to do that?

I live in a very small rural town. My ISP, for one reason or the other, has
now hooked up with gmail. For me, it's gmail or two tin cans with strings.

Not everyone from g mail is your enemy. I have been posting here for years.
I have learned a ton, and I have passed along a lot of information that I
hope was helpful to others.

What I do is this: One strike and yer out!

When I get a spam from someone, it's about two clicks to go to BLOCK SENDER
then hit OK, and they never appear again. Avoid idiot threads you can
recognize by just reading and being observant like "MAKE $6 BILLION FROM $6
IN 6 WEEKS" and "NUDE SEX PICTURES OF OVERSIZED TEXAS WOMEN" and the like by
simply applying a little common sense.

This is the real world. Unless you live in Singapore, your daily walk takes
you past a lot of trash on the street and on the side of the road. Tune it
out. It's a fact of life. It's going to be there no matter what you do.
Usenet can't get rid of it YET. Just stay focused and follow what interests
you. There are threads all the time that I don't read just because I don't
have anything to contribute, like when someone asks a question about a
basement. I don't have a basement. Or when idiots talk religion or
politics because they can't read that this is a home repair group, or don't
have enough active brain cells to understand that.

Usenet is great. It is helpful. You can get fast answers, sometimes when
you are actually working on the project, and someone will answer you in five
minutes.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Everything that comes out of
gmail is not spam.

Steve

You do realize that you're not posting with a gmail address, don't
you? A filter on @gmail.com wouldn't affect you.

You do realize that you are wrong, don't you? I use a fairly old version of
Agent for a newsreader, and one of the default choices for filtering is the
email address. It doesn't even have to be a real email address.

Here is the top of your header:

Path:
<news4.newsguy.com!extra.newsguy.com!postnews.google.com!news1.google.com!news.glorb.com!sn-xt-sjc-05!sn-xt-sjc-10!sn-xt-sjc-01!sn-post-sjc-01!supernews.com!corp.supernews.com!not-for-mail>

If I want to filter just you, I right click on your post and select "filter"

The DEFAULT choice is to filter by your email address. It fills that in to the
filter for me. If I want to filter out everyone at Nortelnetworks.com, I simply
highlight and delete "clewis" from in front of the @ sign.
