Our jetted tub (18 years old) suddenly stopped putting out tiny
bubbles. There is a trickle of water coming out of the knob that
controls the bubble intensity. The pump puts out plenty of water. Any
ideas?? Thanks, T

Sounds like a bad check vlave on the "bubble tube". The knob is actually an
air admidance valve, meaning the wider it is open the more air (or bubbles)
it allows in to the stream. It works off a syphon type affect, as the water
is pumped thru the pipes it draws air in via a T via the air admidance
vlave, thus bubbles. Water should never come out of this valve, air only in,
which is the point behind the check valve. Check along the pipe thats
connected to the valve, you should see the check valve. Try cleaning it
first, might be something lodged in it. If it's clean, it'll have to be
replaced. Should be a fairly low cost item.

There is a big bubble shortage now, because of the increased use of
corn-based ethanol in gasoline. It used to be that a portion of the
corn crop was fermented to make bubbles for hot tubs, jacuzzis,
Lawrence Welk, etc.

But the demand by gasoline companies, cattle and pig growers, and for
corn itself as a food has drive the price too high for bubble vendors.

They are going to plant more acres of corn next season so you can
probably get them then.
