There was another fella from Illinois with even less experience. He did pretty

Abe had 8 years in the State legislature, some time in the Armed
Forces, before he was elected. Obama has only 3 years or so in Senate
with no state experience. Hard to make the case that Abe had even less
experience.

Obama served in the state senate from 1997 to 2004.

Yo are correct and I apologize. I looked at the biography.com listing
and that wasn't included in the synposis. I did find it on page 4 of the
longer version. Mea culpa.
