I have TERRIBLE water pressure in my house, and i'm more than willing to invest in a showerhead that actually works.
Everything I've seen says go to takeashower.com - but I have a problem with that: most of the messages are pure sales pitches on forums with users with 2 or 3 posts only. Add to that the fact that they're all more or less the same text, I get suspicious.
Has anyone actually dealt with this company and bought their products? I would buy one now, except for the stupid spam they obviously put out on forums around the web.
Is it worth the 60 bucks?

dadiOH: The water flow control shouldn't matter for me, should it? I don't have much water pressure as it is anyway (from the pipe, not from the head).
1) Does speakman work in low-pressure homes?
2) Which speakman should I get?
My house has only average pressure, the shower fixture though has very very little. I have a flexible thingy with an option to use the normal bath fixture or a wand - using either results in poor pressure.
I suspect the mixer itself is faulty/dirty/clogged - we have really poor water quality throughout the country, it's very hard water.
I've replaced the shower head with another el-cheapo and the hose too, but like i said, the pressure out of the mixer is terrible as it is.
The takeashower site says it works with really low water pressure - that's why i was looking for it.
In Jordan (the country), we get water once a week. It's stored in big plastic tanks on the roof. I'm on the 2nd floor (the first being ground level) of a 3 floor building - (consider roof level to be 4th floor). My water pressure is slightly below-average for the rest of the house --- but the shower is the worst (dammnit!)
hallerb: I use the massage setting and the pressure becomes at least useable, but i HATE having only a part of me wet at one time. I'm renting, so it's a PITA to get thinks fixed/replaced unless you DIY - but I like to DIY so it's ok.
Given this overly long post, what's your expert advice guys?
If your not comfy DIY fixing the mixing valve and the landlord dopesnt care pay ther $$ and get a plumber in. better investment than changing shower heads.
Sloan makes an all metal self cleaning head that I'm impressed with.

Might be worth investigating for you. They sent me one for free when I said something nice about their pressure flush valves for toilets a while back in this newsgroup.
Say what? You posted a recommendation for their toilets and they sent you a fifty buck shower head?
Hmmm. I've always felt that Maserati's are the best vehicles for home repair. They get you to Home Depot in record time - a real life saver when you've put a nail in a plumbing pipe and need those repair couplings fast!
{How'd I do? Think I'll get a car?}
Good tip on that shower head. I have a place where that'll be perfect. And, no. I'm not sending you anything!
I first experienced that Sloan act-o-matic at a health club and have since put them in 5 showers in two houses. I think they have the perfect pattern and force, and the self cleaning feature really works on my hard well water. They are solid and mostly all brass.
Even when my water pressure falls to 30 before the pump kicks in they have a good solid spray.
Depends on the flow rate you have. You could have low pressure but big pipe and consequently a good flow rate. If your flow rate (open discharge) exceeds that of the head then the rate of the head would increase by modifying the flow control thing in the head. _________________
Any shower head will. What *is* your water pressure? And why is it low? City water or well? __________________
The "Anystream". Some of their cheapos are vacuum plated plastic and I certainly wouldn't recommend those. The others are solid brass - either plated or polished - and come with either 6 or 8 nozzles. The
6 nozzle heads run around $70- $110, the 8 nozzle around $180. List. I have a 6 nozzle one on our guest shower and like it. I'd probably like the 8 nozzle better but I am frugal :)
I like showers. I'm 73 and have used showers in a lot of places. I have never found a shower head I like better than Speakman. However, much depends on what you like...some like those that dribble out water like a sprinkling can. I don't...I like a head that can be adjusted from a gush to a needle spray and that's what the lever on the Anystream head does...it just pushes the jet nozzles in and out...in and you get a needle spray, out is gush. In days of yore when flow rates and pressures were higher the needle spray setting could damn near flay you alive.
The heads do need occasional maintenance, particularly if you have water that is a bit hard. That is accomplished by removing the screw that holds on the plate around the nozzles and cleaning off any accumulated crud. A toothbrush works well.
OK, that makes a difference. A BIG difference. It is the same thing as the water delivery system in Mexico...almost zero flow from the main, main went into a cistern at a trickle (controlled by a float valve), cistern water was pumped to a roof tank.
The flow from the tank was very low as there was no head to speak of, no way to improve it without augmenting it with a pump on the delivery side.
I'm sorry to tell you that no shower head will improve what you have (unless you rig some sort of in-line pump).
Me, I've found the best vehicles for home repair are large stacks of fresh, uncirculated $100 bills. A couple thousand kilograms of them make any home project go easier. And the US Mint makes 'em best!
I still recommend the incredible head. It seems to be just right for this application. Except that it may be a little difficult finding one in Jordan. Perhaps a friend or relative (or company willing to ship overseas) would send one out there. For $5, it couldn't hurt.
Ok, I must add something to this post. We have two showers in our house and both have so-so pressure. One is particularly low. I have lived in the house for 22 years and gone thru lots of shower heads purchased from the regular places like lowes, walmart, true value, etc. All have been pretty much the same. Nothing to write home about. So this past week I decided to search the web for low pressure shower heads. It did not take long to find

I searched for posts about it and saw this thread and several others. I saw the comments about duplicate posts. I did see some that seemed to be from regular people as well. I checked the Better Business web site and found the company behind takeashower.com was a participating member of BBB and has never had a complaint filed against them. So I decided to take a chance and purchased two of the heads. They have a money back guarantee that is about as good as it gets. Even your return shipping will be refunded.
The shower heads arrived yesterday and I can honestly say that they are the very best low pressure shower heads I have ever installed in my house. The shower pressure felt as good as any hotel shower I have had. My wife loves it. My kids will be trying it out today and I know what they are going to say. It is amazing. I am going to buy another shower head for my father-in-law.
This posting is not spam and you can certainly email me if you want more information.
