I am trying to replace the handle on my shower faucet. I have removed
the cap from the handle to access the screw that hold the handle in
place. When I turn the screw, the entire value turns, so I can not
remove the handle. The handle is plastic and I'm wondering if I can
just gently break it off, then I could use a pair of pliers to hold
the valve while I remove the screw. Any suggestions?

FYI - The handle is stripped and does not work that is why I am
replacing it.

I don't know how gently you'll be able to just 'break it off'... but
you're going to have to get medieval with it, one way or another. I'd
be tempted to use a dremel with a cutoff wheel to carve a slot down its
depth, and then crack it open.

Great mind think alike. I got out the dremel and cut a slot and it
broke off clean. The plastic fitting over the value was broken, thus
the reason I could not remove the screw. just needed replace the
handle once i got the old one off.

Thanks.
