Talk.origins is using a whitelist. It works pretty well but you have
to have a moderator.

You have to ask for permission to post from Google Groups because
Google doesn't care about the spam problem.

I think if enough groups would ban Google they would do something.

Pffft. I'm an Oracle software developer -- I shouldn't use the corporate
network to read the comp.databases.oracle.* newsgroups??

Good point.

I have been using the interned for nearly 15 years and I still do not
understand you anti spamers. Do you not understand that the Internet
is a world that is basically without rules.
On the one hand you want aniniminity and your all mighty privacy and
on the other hand you want to regulate or ban anything that you don't
like.

You all will probably be the first to scream bloody murder when
congress gets around to taxing Internet communications which they will
no doubt do in the future. Yet what your are proposing weather it is a
"- " or some other cutesy thing to identify those you would want to
ban.

most browsers have some kind of filtering and yes if you use it, the
work really well, BUT, have you ever looked at what you filtered out?
There is very often information that you were in fact trying to find
in the trash.

Capitalism is an interesting thing. What does not work, simply
disappears in favor of that which does work. What does work mean? To
me "work" means relative to spam, is that the intended message reached
it intended reader.

I sell products on the internet which I believe are the best
available. Yet when I have offered them to people who really need them
and they will save them thousands of dollars and tons of aggravation,
I have been called a spamer.

Just remember, you very often get what you ask for, and if
restrictions is what you want, they will no doubt be forth coming in
spades and probably you will not like the very much and they will
restrict you ability to communicate freely on the internet and maybe
other ways as well.

I am sure you are aware of how effective the anti-spam email
legislation has been. My email is way less that 80% spam now.

The unintended consequences of our wishes and demands are very often
much worse the what we were trying to fix.

You might want to listen to or watch or read "The Secret". It talks
about the law of attraction and how you are attracted to what ever it
is that you think or talk about. Just knowing about the law of
attraction will enlighten you to its power. It is not BS or the evil
spam, but it does work even on spam.
