Anybody ever try this or know of a good reason why I can or can't do this? The 100,000 btu heater burns kerosene or #1 heating oil. Its an old heater, and a spare, so I wouldn't be too devastated if it got damaged. I was thinking of maybe a gallon of oil mixed with 5 gallons of kerosene as a place to start. The used oil is 5w30 out of my cars.

I agree it would be a dirtier burn and the deposits the used oil would leave soot. You should be able to clean it up though. I wouldn't operate it without a CO detector plugged in nearby to prevent death.
Recycle your oil, it serves a better purpose that way, may even get used again.
The oil can ruin the burners in those heaters. Not to mention the fumes that can be nasty. There are heaters that can burn used oil as they are specifically designed to do that.

I use diesel regularly. It had just a little left in it. I poured about a quart of used synthetic motor oil in the tank as it was running. I gently pushed the heater back and forth to mix the liquids . It burned just fine until It began to run out of fuel. I will pick up some diesel in the morning and get back to you on this one.

It will probably burn ok. As it was pointed out you may not want to be in the same room as the heater as many unknown addativies may be in the oil and metal particals from the bearings and the blow by of the burnt gas.
Used engine oil contains toxic metals.
Heaters designed to burn used oil vent the exhaust gases outside. A torpedo heater throws them into the room. Not a good idea
