dryer vent doesn't seem right

dryer vent doesn't seem right The DaveŠ 08-18-2005

Same rented house. Overall very nice and good condition, honest. Anyway,
when I use the dryer the laundry room fills with hot moist air and you can
definitely feel it off to one side of the dryer. Everything appears to be
hooked up ok. The vent is in an interior wall, and I assume goes straight
up through the roof. I'm assuming the vent may be plugged with lint from
previous users. Would this be the logical first place to look? Thanks

Yep. I think vents up through a wall suck. I have the same in my new
home and it takes orever to dry a load of clothes simply because the
vent line is (A) long, and (b) has several curves. I solved this by
putting a vent straight through into my garage (which doesn't meet code,
but certainly solved the problem). If I need to sell the house, I will
simply pull it out and patch the wall since the original vent which does
meet code is still there.

Since you are renting, the first place I would look is the rental
office. Report the problem and see how responsive they are to you now that
they have your name on the lease.

Not only can it cause slower drying, increased heat and humidity in your
home, but it is also a fire hazard. That last one is your answer if they
don't want to fix it. The local fire department may want to help you out on
this one.
